"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it became pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make her wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and also gave unto her husband with her..."
James and I attended the wedding reception of a cousin last night. We walked in as the newlyweds were dancing close together. They were happy and an air of innocence enveloped them. Their purpose together had been solidified...they needed each other. My mind immediately went to the lesson I was scheduled to teach to the 12&13 year old kids in Sunday School today. The lesson was about Adam and Eve and the choices they made in the Garden of Eden. This is by far one of my most favorite stories from the Old Testament. I feel a kinship with that first couple placed on earth. Their purpose could not be accomplished without each other. Heavenly Father is a wise one.
At Mark's basketball game yesterday I sat the kids down, passed mints out and settled in to have a good laugh. 7 year old boys, wrist bands, hoops and a basketball always make for an entertaining hour. Not 2 minutes into the game I was approached by a panicked, wide eyed Tess. She was choking on her mint in a bad way (she's 2! what was i thinking?). It is in these moments I need my own Adam the most. He was across the court however helping coach Mark's team. I quickly got myself and Tess to where I could get his attention and he came and helped better the situation. I'm ready to call 911 and have the blood transfusions ready, while he is thumping her back, getting her a drink and cleaning up her mess. Problem solved. He is my calm when I am not. I needed him.
Late last night at about 3:00 a.m. I awoke with the realization I had not taken Nate potty before bed. This is a battle between he and I and he, the 5 year old little stinker, is winning. His bedding is getting washed on a regular, daily basis. I grew tired of putting a diaper on his 5 year old self, won't pay for pull ups and have decided I would rather grow tired of washing his sheets daily. Do you see the reasoning? I don't. Anyway, in the wee hours of the night I remembered this forgetful moment. I was DEAD DOG tired and had not a bit of energy to pull myself from my bed, wander down 3 flights of stairs and take my young wetter to the potty. I rolled over to James and groggily questioned if he could do the deed for me. He gave an affirmative, congenial yes and took care of Nate's business. He is my energy when mine is depleted. I needed him.
I was asked to play the flute for the Christmas program at church. I hadn't played for a few years and was incredibly excited for the opportunity. I love to play the flute. It seems so sad to me to work and work on a talent and then to grow older and rarely have the opportunity to use that talent. The group I was to play in practiced hard and the song was beautiful. The Sunday to play arrived and I wasn't feeling too good about myself, my hair, my outfit (?!), my face, my body, etc. It was one of those days. We all have them. I loaded into the car regardless. As we pulled into the parking lot James turned to me and said, "I feel bad for all those other husbands." I questioned why and he replied, "Because I will have the prettiest wife at church today." James is my confidence when mine is on hiatus. I needed him.
"...and he did eat." (Moses 4:12)
My favorite part of the story? Eve needed Adam and Adam needed Eve.
P.S. Date Night #2: This one is kinda a joke. James got a new Blue Ray player so it was inevitable that our date would include snacks ala James and a movie. This I am good with. He rented Ice Age 3 (only Blue Ray available at Hollywood Video) and we settled in for the movie. We love the cartoons as much as our kids. I was asleep in about 20 min. and James followed right behind. We have turned into a couple of old fogies.
Grade: B (simply because we couldn't make it through an 83 min. movie due to age and fatigue)

We loved seeing you guys the other night. It was fun that we had a chance to chat for a bit.
And yes, Adam and Even both need each other.
What about Arrested Development? I never got into the show, but I have a feeling if I did, I would really love it. Where can I find it now?
Netflix if you do that and Hulu currently has all of season 2 online. You kind of have to watch season 1 to have a pure appreciation though-It was good to see you 3 as well. We have a great admiration for both of you ; )
