My mother is currently on a '3rd Rock from the Sun' kick and watches it in re-runs almost nightly. Last night we enjoyed a few episodes with her. One of the episodes involved a character getting pregnant and giving birth all within 24 hrs. I commented about how nice that would be and left it at that.
Later that night as I laid in bed I started thinking about the baby I was cooking and changed my mind about the whole 24 hrs. thing. I decided 2 things about 9 months of pregnancy:
1) The reason we women can give birth is because after 9 months of no sleep, heart burn, backaches and general discomfort, we don't care what it takes, cut us in half, just get the baby out. The 9 months allows us to prep for that painful moment and we can't wait to get it done. Odd, but comforting.
2) I also concluded it is during that long 9 months we bond with the little personage we are growing. We think and think and think about the baby. Boy or Girl? Redhead or blond? Watcher or activist? What will we name it? Will the baby have Mark's saucer eyes or Tess' plump little tush? Should I drink that Diet Coke (sadly the answer is usually yes!?) And for me, after 4 kids, I know that the minute I hold this new baby I will fall instantly, head over heals in love and I often find my mind wandering to that precise moment----being introduced to the spirit Heavenly Father is entrusting to my care. Nothing better, nothing.
And while the end of July seems sooooo far away and I wouldn't want the time to go any longer, I am going to enjoy this time (maybe for the 1st time) and dream about this baby and gear myself up for the surprise I know it will be.

Bliss Returned
Alright all of you idol junkies and favorite fans...
I simply could not be more excited. It's time to pow wow together on a weekly basis and discuss our varied opinions of the singers we will be investing time in 2 nights a week. In the words of Chris Matthews...I felt a tingling up my leg as I watched the 1st two hours last night. I have not been truly in tune with AI since Carrie Underwood took the coveted title in 2005. Hicks, Sparks and Cook were never my cup of tea. Are you asking yourself right now who Hicks is? Yeah-he is that forgettable and nowhere to be seen. I did watch religiously every week during those seasons, but it was never with an air of excitement. BUT-I have to say after seeing last night's talent I got that 'tingling' sensation, especially when the tattooed, naughtier version of me sang Barracuda. That Emily can sing. My only hope, dream and wish is that bratty bikini girl doesn't make it past the first day in Hollywood. Olivia just stared at the telly (I'm secretly British) in disbelief when she was hopping around in front of the judges. She turned to me and asked, "Doesn't she know how bad she looks?" I had to agree and NO I don't think she can sing. Chalk another one up for 'Team Sex'.
Unholster your opinions, crack your typing fingers and chime in with your thoughts. We had fun last year schooling each other about the different qualities of Archuletta, Cook, White and Johns. I can feel it...this is THE year for a TRUE American Idol to emerge...you can take that prediction to the bank.

The Lion and the Lamb
Sung to the tune "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke"
I'd like to buy the world a DS Lite and sit us down to play.
We'd talk and laugh and all our cares would simply go away.
I'd like to teach the world to sit just like these little ones.
I'd like to buy the world a DS Lite and we'd all have some fun.
Corney I know...but seeing these two sitting like this made me see visions of apple trees, honey bees and snow white turtle doves. I had to burst out into song.
Who would have known that a small investment on our part as parents would have such calming effects on the battling relationship between this brother and sister? This peace and quiet between our lion and lamb lasted ALL afternoon and in the words of the primary song I Lived in Heaven, "Gave us hope of a wonderful life yet to be."
Thank you Nintendo, thank you.

What Bad Dreams are Made Of
I'm one of those fun sleepers who has incredibly vivid dreams and those dreams never seem to be fun, I'm at Disneyland dreams. They usually involve James leaving me for no good reason, one of my kids coming up missing or the inability to accomplish a certain task. I usually wake up in tears. I think this says a ton about my self esteem and confidence. I need to go talk to Oprah and have one of her "Ah ha moments". Maybe she will then send me on a trip for a week and grant me a free car, taxes taken care of.
One never need to wonder why my kids are such restless sleepers...they get it from me.
I have about 6 reoccurring dreams that I get about once a month. One of my favorite always happens after I chew gum. I dream I have a HUGE wad of gum in mouth that is sticking to my teeth and I can't get it out of my mouth. For some reason I always end up getting a popsicle stick to try and pry it out. It never works. Talk about nightmare. It made me give up gum permanently, but I do still have this dream. It most likely occurs after watching one of my kids gnaw on a piece.
Last night I had one of the dreams I dread and hate the most...a return to school. This dream always begins in the morning and I'm getting ready for school. I'm never a kid. I'm my 33 year old self, headed back to high school. I suddenly remember that I didn't finish my math homework. So I spend the entire morning getting ready, heading to school, wandering the halls and heading to math knowing I only did about 5 math problems. How am I going to explain this to my ultra mean teacher? I can physically feel my heart pounding in my chest. I'm sure this dream only lasts minutes, but it feels like an eternity. Out of nowhere a light bulb pops into my head and I think, "Hey! I graduated and I'm a lot older than any of the kids here! What am I doing here?" I wake up and life is good again...onto the next dream...
